Staci Russell

Cowgirl Barrel Racer & Educator

About Staci

Staci Russell did not grow up around horses. She is a first-generation rodeo athlete born and raised in the Detroit metro area. She never imagined herself being a “cowgirl”, but she is glad the world of rodeo found her. Growing up, Staci played basketball and softball. She went to Tuskegee University on an academic and athletic scholarship for softball.

I am writing to introduce myself as a professional rodeo athlete and to request your consideration for a sponsorship opportunity. My name is Staci Russell and I have been competing in rodeo events for the past eight years.

I am extremely dedicated to my sport and have worked hard for the successes I’ve experienced. In 2018, I clinched a spot in the International Professional Rodeo Association (IPRA) top 20 barrel racers. I am a three-time Midstates Rodeo Association (MSRA) finals qualifier (2017, 2018, 2021) and the 2017 MSRA Barrel Racing Champion, becoming the first African American to win a MSRA title.
